Partidul Nostru (PN)

[flag of Partidul Nostru] image by Ivan Sache and Tomislav Todorović, 26 November 2020

Partidul Nostru (PN - Our Party) was established on 3 March 1994 as Partidul Ţărănesc Creştin Democrat din Moldova (PŢCDM - Christian Democratic Peasant Party of Moldova) and registered as a political party on 20 May 1999. The party was renamed to Partidul Popular Republican (PPR - Republican People's Party) on 28 May 2005, and to Partidul Nostru on 8 February 2015.

The emblem and flag of PN are prescribed in Article 1.9 of the party's Statutes adopted on 28 May 2005, as "a horizontal white and blue rectangle diagonally divided into two equal triangles. The diagonal starts from the lower left corner of the rectangle and ends in its upper right corner. The blue color covers the top of the rectangle and the white one the bottom. The word 'Partidul' is written in white on blue, and the word 'Nostru' is printed in blue on white."

Oddly enough, the writing appears in small letters on the emblem but in Capital letters on most flags.

Mișcarea Republicană social-politică "Ravnopravie" (Republican socio-political movement "Equality") was established in June 1998 by activist Valery Klimenko.
In 2015, the party won the municipal election in Orhei led by the "philanthropist businessman" (read, oligarch) Ilan Șor (b. 1987), who was elected Mayor of the town. In June 2016, Șor succeeded Klimenko, who was appointed Honor President, as the party's President.

On 25 September 2016, the party adopted new Statutes, which include a new name, Partidul politic Șor, a new program and new symbols. The Statutes were registered by Decision No. 278 issued on 7 November 2016 by the Ministry of Justice.
In the 2019 general election, the party secured 7 out of the 101 seats at the Parliament.

Partidul Popular Creştin Democrat (PPCD)

[flag of Partidul Popular Creştin Democrat (PPCD)] image by Ivan Sache and Tomislav Todorović, 27 November 2020

The "Partidul Popular Creştin Democrat" (PPCD; in English, Christian-Democratic People's Party, CDPP) was founded in 1999 as the successor of the "Frontul Popular Creştin Democrat" (FPCD; in English, Christian Democratic Popular Front), itself founded in 1992 as the successor of the "Frontul Popular din Moldova" (FPM; in English, Popular Front of Moldova), itself founded in 1989 as the successor of the "Mişcarea Democratică din Moldova" (MDM; in English, Democratic Movement of Moldova, founded in 1988). Presided by Iurie Roşca (b. 1961) since its foundation, the PPCD supports unification with Romania and integration into NATO and EU. In the 2005 general elections, the PPCD won 9% of the votes and 11 out of the 101 seats in the Parliament.

Photographs taken during the Xth Congress of the PPCD:
http://ppcd.md/page.php?modul=Gallery&op=show_categorie&gid=32 shows the flag of the party as orange with the party emblem in the middle. The emblem of the PPCD is a blue heart charged with a ring of 12 yellow stars surrounding a crowned Christ raising a cross in his left hand, all yellow.

Ivan Sache, July 2008

The emblem of PPCD is prescribed in Article 5 of the party's Statutes adopted during its 8th Congress, held on 16 May 2004.

"The emblem is composed of a blue heart inscribing the effigy of ruler Stephen the Great and Holy raising the Holy Cross as a sign of blessing, surrounded by a crown of 12 golden stars, which emphasizes the PPCD membership in the Christian Democratic International."
http://www.e-democracy.md/files/parties/ppcd-statute-2004-ro.pdf

Stephen III, Voivode of Moldavia from 1457 to 1504, considered as a national hero both in Moldova and Romania, was canonized in 1992 by the Romanian Orthodox Church. After he had defeated a big Ottoman army near Vaslui in 1475, Stephen was awarded the title of "Athleta Christi" (Champion of Christ) / "verus christianae fidei athleta" (the true champion of the Christian faith) by Pope Sixtus IV.
The effigy on the emblem of the PPCD appears to have been designed after the statue of the ruler erected in Great National Assembly Square, Chișinău. Designed in 1923 by architect Alexandru Plămădeală (1888-1940) and inaugurated in 1928, the monument was relocated to different places, until eventually brought back to its original location in August 1989.

Partidul Social Democrat

[flag of Partidul Social Democrat] image by Ivan Sache, 5 December 2009

"Partidul Social Democrat" (PSD) was founded on 13 May 1990 as "Partidul Social-Democrat din Moldova" (PSDM). After its failure in the 2005 general election (less than 3% of the votes and no seat in the Parliament), PSDM merged in December 2007 with PSD, chaired by Dumitru Braghiş (b. 1957), Prime Minister of Moldova in 1999-2001. Braghiş became the chairman of the new party while the former chairman of PSDM, Eduard Muşuc, became Secretary General of the new party. PSD claims on its website a "partnership" with the Party of European Socialists and the Socialist International but does not appear on the listings of these two organizations.

The party's website shows several photos of street demonstrations, on which the flag of PSD can be seen in two versions, a red flag with the party's emblem in white and a white flag with the party's emblem in red. The symbol of PSD is prescribed in the statutes of the party, adopted in 2007 in Chişinău:
"Article 2. Symbols of the party.
1. The electoral sign (symbol) of PSD is made of two roses, white and red, linked by a ribbon forming in its upper part the symbol of infinity.
2. The logo of the party is a stylized hand holding a rose, the badge of the Socialist International.
3. The graphic form of the party's symbols is given in the annex of the present statutes [not available]."

Uniunuea Centrista din Moldova

[flag of Uniunuea Centrista din Moldova] image by Eugene Ipavec, 23 April 2009"Uniunuea Centrista din Moldova" (UCM, Centrist Union of Moldova) was founded on 15 May 2000. Currently chaired by former Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev (2001-2008), UCM received 2.75% of the votes in the 2009 legislative elections and is not represented in the Parliament. UCM has set up a partnership with Russian party "United Russia" and the Ukrainian "Party of the Regions".

The flag of UCM is described in Article 4.2. of the party's statutes, last amended on 27 September 2008. Accordingly, the flag is in dimensions 1.2 m x 2 m (3:5), blue with a white disk of 0.8 in diameter charged with the emblem of the party. I understand that the name of the party is written in "national language" (Romanian, officially called Molodvan) on the obverse and in Russian of the reverse of the flag. A black and white representation of the flag is available in Appendix 2.

The emblem of UCM is described in Article 4.1. The emblem represents the administrative and territorial map of Moldova, supported by two hands and surrounded by an imaginary circle bearing the party's name. A black and white representation of the flag is available in Appendix 1.

The party's website shows the emblem with the map diagonally divided blue-yellow-red and the administrative divisions marked with grey limits; the hands are yellow. The divisions shown on the map are the nine old judeţe replaced in 2003 by 32 raion and five municipalities. The name of the party's chair is added in blue capital letters above the map. There is a "national" and a Russian version of the emblem. The flag, without the name of the chairman and with Moldovan writing, can be seen on several colour photos available on V. Tarlev's website.
